Welcome
This tutorial addresses issues of concern particular to the adjunct/part-time experience and provides resources to make your experience more enjoyable and rewarding. It contains information about a wide range of topics, and we hope it will be valuable for people just starting out in teaching and for those who have years of experience.
For those who are new to the state system, welcome to Minnesota State Colleges and Universities. The 6th largest state higher education system of two- and four-year colleges and universities in the country, this system was created in 1995 and was formed by merging the state universities with the community college system and the technical college system. When all the numbers are combined, there are close to 18,000 instructors, at 53 campuses, teaching almost to 374,000 students. For more information, including maps, consult the publication "Amazing Facts"
Another great resource available through the system is the Center for Teaching and Learning's ITEACH Center. Here you will be able to search for resources covering a wide variety of topics from assessment to teaching underprepared students. You can search by keyword, by specific discipline area or by filling in a search blank.
CTL also has a wonderful resource for first-time teachers called "An eHandbook for New Faculty."
Lastly, much of this tutorial's content is also discussed in depth in Courses for New Faculty: College Faculty Credentialing.
Again, welcome and happy learning!
